Nokia E90 Communicator - Finally

December 3, 2008 by Jagz

If you do not have problems with size of a phone and are more interested in the features, then here is a whole world for you. I have been looking for a ‘good’ phone with whole lot of features, great connectivity, decent browser, speed and lot more since long, and I must say, my search ends here “at least for now”. The Nokia E90 is not a new phone in the market, but it is new for me!

I am not an on-move kind of person but need to remain in-touch with the Internet every moment. I cannot imagine even few hours without a proper Internet access. I used to have O2 Mini S around two years back. It is a good device and used to solve most of my requirements related to my Internet access. The IE for Windows mobile used to open my email, the ticketing system and my control panels fairly fine but taking and dialing phone calls was a nightmare. There is no phone keypad on Mini S and like most of the Win Mobiles, it had a touch screen. Quickly dialing, finding contacts and etc. was very difficult on that phone specially while driving. I know we should not use mobile phone while driving but this phone made the things worse!

With O2, I somehow became a fan of touch-screen phone but at the same time not a big fan of Win Mobiles. No matter what you do, which phone you have, Win Mobiles never seem to be running fast. The OS is always too heavy for the processer. I used the O2 for quite some time. Around eight months back, I happened to go to “Gafar Market” in New Delhi. It is known as the biggest wholesale mobile phone market in India. There I saw HP iPAQ 6965. It was a second hand phone but in mint condition. On giving a quick look on the features, found that it has everything that my O2 has and the phone keypad was a bonus. It took me less than few minutes to get my phone upgraded (or downgraded.. ehh?). Paid the guy cool Rs.8000- plus my O2 and pocketed a “new” HP Win Mobile iPAQ!

As a matter of fact at that time also I had a desire of getting Nokia E90 but the price was too high (it is still high). Since E90 was very new in the market, there was no option for second hand phone as well. Spending Rs.38000 on a phone was not an option at that moment.

I have been working on a new version of my business web site for quite some time now. The main feature (from my point of view) is that its support area (from where I provide support to my customers and manage the billing and order processing) is 100% mobile phone compatible. I had this in my mind that whenever my site is ready, I would go for Nokia E90. As my site was nearing to finish, my search for Nokia E90 was hotting up. I knew I would be buying a second hand since I felt that a bit used phone doesn’t makes any difference and I’ll get it for half a price.

I shortlisted few of the phones on ebay and decided to order one any day. I found a good post on ebay “Three Month Old, Scratchless Nokia E90 with Warranty Left”. The asking price by the seller was Rs.22000 plus shipping charges of Rs.500. I had an ebay discount coupon of Rs.1000, so the phone was costing me Rs.21500 in all. I gathered my guts (guts?.. yes we need guts to order on ebay!) and ordered the phone.

The seller shipped the phone very next day and I got it the third day. I knew that I was buying a second hand phone so did not expect it to be an untouched piece, but the words “Scratch-Less and Three Months Old” were making me excited. I opened the box and … bang. No there was no bomb in my box but felt that my money has gone down the drain. The phone was in “good condition” but in no way it was scratch less. It seemed to be more than an year old and highly used. From the condition of the screws, it showed some signs of been opened and repaired also.

I had made up my mind that I would not be using that phone and will sell it off for whatever price I get. I called up the seller and informed him that I was not satisfied with the product and the phone seems to be older. Here I got a fresh breath of life… “If you do not like the phone, send it back to me and I will give you a refund”. I packed it up right away and the very next day shipped it back to the seller. I was so upset that I thought of retaining my HP iPAQ.

I got a call from the seller that he has received the phone after a day. Now again I was back searching for a Nokia E90! My wife (the most wonderful person… hmm .. sometimes) ordered me to get a new phone and she won’t allow me to buy a second hand again. It was bit difficult to spend another Rs.12000, but she was speaking words from my mind only.

Finally… I paid Rs.20000 in cash and another 12000 by credit card and got my “Brand New” Nokia E90! I will keep you updated, its working… my expert reviews…! Cheers!
